Thank you, Amanda. Resounding truths. But how will we ever hold T accountable when he has immunity granted by SCOTUS and pardon parole for his partners in crime?
The power of the purse, throughout history, has brought down bigger despots than Trump, like the English King, Charles I executed in 1649. Congress has a job to do and that job is to reclaim their power of the purse and close the spigot and stop this insanity. In a construction zone full of incomplete and decaying projects Trump’s inability to function is of grave concern. Who is running the government? Who is implementing his wildly delusional plans, who reads the intelligence reports to him? Who executes his out of control orders, who acquiesces to his escalating breaks from reality and who guides him from room to room? Who has the Nuclear Codes, if it is Trump, who safeguards America?
Ms Carpenter, may I make a trifling request of you? Please consider not using the phrase "President Donald Trump," or perhaps even "Trump." "The clown," "the scoundrel," "the grifter/thief," or perhaps other references give a much clearer picture of what you're describing.
The clown is fond of saying that the White House has never had an extensive ballroom. It never seems to occur to him to wonder why not. As a further frame of reference, considerable repairs and renovations were done during Truman's term. If the White House needed anything more, Truman and Congress would have done it then.
Most interesting to learn that "hardening" of the White House was done during Obama's term. This is all the more reason to have confidence that anything that seemed to have been needed would have been done before.
What this is about is a moron with no talent or training in anything, but who is so taken with himself that he can't bear anything that's not about him.
To invert and extend a quote by Mark Twain, “This is the worst Government money can buy.”

Excellent piece, Amanda. I'd previously read it in the Bulwark; I thought it was important enough to read again.
