This is so heartening. It takes courage to stand up as the folks in Chicago are doing. It takes courage to do the right thing. So glad to see this result.
Just sent three American flag postcards today: to Judge Ellis, Judge McConnell (R.I.), and Judge Kolar-Kotelly (D.C.) thanking them for standing up for the Rule of Law and empirically-derived FACTS.
Hopefully we can all perform these small acts of gratitude to keep our spirits up and to give credit to the courageous jurists who put themselves at risk by opposing the fascist gang at the helm of our "government" right now.
But yet... Right before our eyes is what to do between elections and it seems nobody is pursuing it.
State Republicans are under pressure to kowtow to Trump's election rigging. Not just Gerrymandering, but other un/less publicized schemes. It's time for the 7 million No-Kings protesters (plus those who couldn't make it) to be put to real use to turn up the counter-heat on State Republicans being pressured by Trump.
Because of widespread corruption in US politics, these State Republicans are on the leashes of the major corporations in their state. Narrowing down, the North Carolina Republicans are on the leashes of Bank of America and Coca Cola -- both headquartered in North Carolina.
Who holds the leashes to Bank of America and Coca Cola? CONSUMERS. Coca Cola particularly, but also Bank of America when it comes to private (non-business) accounts. Seven million+ No-Kings protesters is a LOT of consumers to boycott and picket Bank of America and Coca Cola. Us consumers pull on our leashes to Coca Cola and Bank of America and pressure them to pull on their leashes to the North Carolina Republicans they own. Demand Coca Cola and Bank of America get North Carolina Republicans to cancel Trump's Gerrymandering and any other election rigging schemes or move their headquarters out of North Carolina.
Repeat this in any other states who have, or are considering, kowtowing to Trump's election rigging schemes. All that's needed is for the No-Kings leadership organizations to get their act together and start organizing. Stop sitting around letting the Republicans organize and scheme until it's too late. It's already going to be harder to get states like North Carolina to undo what they've done. It's far far easier to get states to not do anything in the first place.
Information-packed roundup, Ben! Totally behind what Protect Democracy is doing. Now is the time to keep the pressure on and be diligent. If “we the People” refuse to submit, this autocratic regime is toast - but will try every trick in the book. Also important to tell folks in our orbit how important it is to vote!
I appreciate the depth, breadth, and references of this posting. I’d like a link to “...yesterday’s Democracy Atlas case study on Poland”; I haven’t been able to find it. Thanks for all your efforts. We need to redouble our efforts, everyone! Stand up; speak out.
