I believe that both Democrats and Republicans, Harris and Trump supporters, want to "save democracy." It's dangerous to say that one side is a threat and the other isn't. There needs to be more unity. People need to come together, agree to disagree, and realize that we are ALL Americans and want what's best for our friends, families, and fellow Americans. The very fact that we have the option to vote for two candidates that are very passionate about the wellbeing of this country means that democracy is already ALIVE and STRONG.
correction: only ONE of the candidates cares about the wellbeing of the country, the other candidate (Trump) does not care and is not fit to be President, there are numerous senior Cabinet members who are well respected Generals in the military who have publicly stated this...
Another Trump presidency will be a fatal blow to freedom and democracy. Thanks to the MAGA 6 on the Supreme Court, he’s above the law. He can take bribes for any official act, including pardons. He can summarily arrest, imprison, and murder his political opponents. He’s immune to any prosecution.
The decision can’t stand, and until it is overturned Trump or another fascist cannot become president.
I'm worried about Liz Cheney. Frump wants to have some kind of 'Nuremberg' commission to find her guilty and send her to some terrible place (maybe Gitmo?). Anyways, hope Harris wins and that won't happen!
Amanda, I've just watched you on Deadline Whitehouse with Nicolle (Aug. 12), along with having read an exceedingly explicit account of how this Republic becomes no more. You paint the picture of how we might quite possibly change from a Democracy to an authoritarian morass of power for Trump and his 'loyal' slaves. There will no longer be any of the safety nets that held the country together thus far if Trump wins. But I deeply believe he will not win. I know there will be all kinds of fuckery to jam up the works of the voting systems, but somehow it will turn out, in the end, to show all that is right in and for America's 249 years of constant movement towards that in us which chooses the nature 'of our better angels'. Although bumpy yet constantly affirming, we will continue to be a free nation, having banished forever what would be the worst of Trump and his allies' plans if they were to win the Presidency. [I hear a band playing. Do you? LOLOL!]
Lastly, after all the axioms of freedom I've gone on and on about, I simply just wanted to say what a wise woman you've become, Amanda. I've watched your growth over the years, silently, until now. But it feels right to share with you my thoughts and feelings that you've grown into someone who knows right from wrong, and you've truly inspired me! I've always been so impressed by Ian Bassin, and now here you come, the right woman in the right place to help lead us out of the darkness, with the blessed others alongside you, where we'll finally be safe (all fingers crossed!). Thank you, Amanda, for always sharing your insights and convictions. You have become my north star. ~Maddy
