Thanks for telling us what “we need to do.” But how? Most of the authoritarian elements of our politics mentioned here are locked into the Constitution.
You know why the race is too close to call? Because of people like you. Every time someone on Trump's side (or on the fence) hears someone on the left so isolated from the truth to think their side are the "good guys" - they lean toward Trump. And the same thing happens on the other side... Actually, it's more accurate to say people are not leaning toward one candidate or another, they're leaning away from the people that support one candidate or the other.
Trump will face the International Court if he wins and is elected for this guy will find out the hard way. That his picked Supreme Court Justices will be looking for jobs and why because the new move is going to change so every American will vote for the Justices not a President ever again. Trump has done America a favor for many of the wrong people have taken advantage of our Constitution and that is going to stop. America will never allow a Dictator to hold office in this Nation.
Say for some crazy reason TRUMP wins this Election he will find himself standing in front of the International Court of Law for the real patriots will not tolerate this Dictator the chance to end our Constitution or harm Americans. Us Military people are not losers and the Female American Voters are about to educate him on their rights.
Action step for folks here - We must help get more Democratic voters to the polls in swing states! Let’s support those tireless folks who are door-knocking, phone banking, & text banking till - and including - Election day! But how are those likely Blue voters located?
Field Team 6 is the only organization that identifies likely Democrats, gets them to register, then nudges them to vote. Their approach gains new Democratic votes for only $2.24 for 1 new vote - a fraction of other organizations’ cost-per-vote. But they need names, addresses, and phone numbers of who to approach.
Democrat Janet Protasiewicz was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in August 2023 - as a direct result of Field Team 6’s outreach.
Even now, there are a dozen states where you can still register to vote - some even on election day. And in any swing state, volunteers can still go door knocking, phone banking, & text banking. As little as 10 or 20 votes per precinct can enable Democrats to win.

You should include in your recommended reading,"The Politics Industry" by Katherine Gehl and Harvard Professor Michael Porter. They explain the problems of the 'perfect duopoly' represented by the Democratic and Republican Parties. We need to open up the primaries to the total electorate, instead of continuing to bolster the party loyalists who are driving centrists out of their parties, while strengthening the more extreme remaining party members' stranglehold on naming candidates. Over 80% of elections are decided in Primaries, with far too low voter turnouts (sometimes caused by intentionally inappropriate scheduling favoring loyalists' turnout).
Arizona had taken the most productive start to 'opening up,' which is described at https://www.azleg.gov/alispdfs/council/2024BallotMeasures/I-14-2024%20Make%20Elections%20Fair%20Arizona.pdf - Alaska's Top 4 is a good example, although a controversial implementation. California and Washington State have a Top 2 approach that works fairly well. Nevada is also considering a Final Five approach, which is what Gehl/Porter had recommended in their book. Unfortunately, primary reform took a beating in the 2024 election, largely because of the unfortunate and incorrect perception by Republicans that changes were part of a Democratic Party effort to undermine Republicans. Hopefully, education will lead to better understanding of why neither party wants change, largely because current politicians were elected under the current system, so why change it? Looking at the gap between voter satisfaction with Congress (~15%) versus re-election rate (~85%) should be a convincing argument for any change! The variations on opening the system can be viewed as experiments, as there is no perfect way to achieve optimum representation in a democratic republic. The only thing clear to me is that the current plurality system, accompanied by gerrymandering by an entrenched Duopoly has yielded a dysfunctional and polarized government.

To check out Field Team 6’s impact, see https://www.fieldteam6.org/_files/ugd/c03fe4_ca47cde71737499492a602eb46bf0aba.pdf - They have a very impressive track record of getting more people to vote Democratic.
Who will help? Can I see a show of hands? (I’m too tired to go door-knocking - I’ve sent out 500 postcards in the past several weeks.)
