In just under 120 hours, the polls will start to close on the midterms.

All eyes will be on the partisan clash, Republicans versus Democrats. But that’s not the most important head-to-head. I’ll be looking at the struggle between the federal government seeking to disrupt the process and the nationwide legion of people seeking to protect and ensure a free and fair election.

This week, we’ve learned a lot about both sides.

On ours — the free and fair elections one — millions of people, Republicans, Democrats, independents, are hard at work across the country to protect a smooth and secure elections process and ensure that their voices are heard, regardless of who they or their neighbors vote for. I’ve been in this fight for a long time and I’ve never seen a pro-democracy ecosystem so focused, committed, and organized.

I’m calling us “team determination.”

On the other side, which is mostly just the shrinking circle of government officials and political allies blindly following President Trump’s orders to attack the midterms, the opposite is true. As it becomes clear that the Deceive, Disrupt, Deny playbook isn’t really working, every day they’re getting more erratic, sloppier, and more unpredictable.
