Even folks who agreed to pay, should not pay. Tell the administrations's goons what they want to hear, and then blow them off. I thought Harvard had already won in court, why are they talking about settling? The universities should bring together the best minds from their law departments to devise a strategy to sue the hell of the tRump administration, and work in solidarity with the big law firms who are resisting, each university and firm filing their own suits to suck the life out of this corrupt administration. They cannot keep crumbling like this. Gov. Newsom will not, and should not, sanction paying even one dime. And yes, where is the money going?

I ask this in every situation where Trump fleeces someone. As long as I never get an answer I'll assume it goes in Trump's pocket.

So who is following the money? I for one would like to know where it is going!

It’s incredible that leaders of our elite in educational institutions did not learn about standing up for democracy in their middle school and high school history classes. It doesn’t take great intelligence to understand that we should not capitulate with a rogue government. What the hell is wrong with our educational leaders

Is UCLA the first public institution to get targeted? Seems like this is a way to go after California and its taxpayers in addition to targeting higher education. Trump wants CA taxpayers paying him protection money.

I absolutely agree with this model. Who will tell the Boards of Regents though? It's a huge paradigm shift from everything they've ever understood.

Excellent post.

Although I still couldn't care less about Harvard until they rehire Claudine Gay with full back pay.

Principles: Don’t negotiate with terrorists. FBI- don’t pay kidnapping ransom Cybersecurity: Don’t pay theft of service ransoms. Trump acts like a Mafia thug & should be treated as such.

I don't like Trump, having voted against him six times counting primaries....but the bureaucracies at Harvard and Columbia have allowed and likely encouraged harassment of Jews. Don't trust me---read their own internal reports the Trump admin made them release. They've harassed out of academia serious scholars for conservative findings or teaching. And then there are the disgusting and illegal quotas limiting numbers of Asian Americans. (I know kids who were affected---it isn't right.) It's a free country. Certain powerful institutions get to be mendacious bigots which ignore the law---and I get to tell my representatives they should not get my tax dollars. Let's admit that on occasion even the Trump admin gets something right. Our credibility depends on it. I will say the current Harvard President seems to want reform. Perhaps external pressure will empower his efforts.
