I had a patient today, and she does oncology-related management. She talked about how AI misreads X-rays and scans. There are adolescents who get themselves overinvolved in AI, which, when they type about how miserable they are, being adolescents and all, encourages them to consider suicide. No mental health professional on earth would encourage an adolescent patient to consider suicide. Only some system using a mindless and phony -- artificial -- algorithm would do that.

Regarding rules for AI, the capabilities of the many AI engines are increasing so quickly, and their growth is in so many directions, that any cumbersome, laborious governmental attempt at reigning them in is doomed to failure. This is, unfortunately, the atom bomb all over again, where some degree of control came after the maturing of the technology yet we are still threatened by state and terrorist actors. Rules for AI are needed but have to come from the developers, who may be able to act with more flexibility and dispatch. Responsibility, though, pales in the light of the huge piles of money.
