The real issue here and everywhere else is that too many Americans who "should be alarmed" are not. Nor will they ever be alarmed until it is way too late to do anything. This is viewed as "Someone else's problem". Good day, and Good luck.
I was still an uninformed and uncaring highschool student. But, this event terrified me me and probably changed my life trajectory.
Today I am appalled that others of my age (the AARP crowd) seem not to realize the imminent danger posed to them. Everything I read indicates that older people are politically active, but it seems many are simply reactive to Trump's (and his sycophants) polarization efforts. How to encourage more thoughtful action? I don't know.
Thanks for the reminder about the catastrophe at Kent State. I was an 18 year old student living in Cincinnati Ohio on the day of the shooting. It was a surreal time. 55 years later I still feel sick thinking about it. Never forget- Four Dead in Ohio.
I remember the day Kent State shooting happen, I played golf with a guy that was a student on Campus on that Day, he was 300 yard away from the protest and Soldiers
Agree the right wing media is a MAJOR factor keeping huge numbers of Americans in the dark re: the very serious threat the Trump Administration is posing.
Now, how do we get millions of copies of this into the hands of military personnel?
And as always, with everything destructive done by Trump and the GOP of The Republic of Gilead, these reprehensible characters can only get away it because of the right wing propaganda networks.
I was a senior in college, at a school of similar size about 325 miles north of Kent. We shut down the campus and took over the ROTC building; luckily for us MI governor wasn't a full out fascist like Rhodes. The college president decided to talk to us and wait us out (I'm sure the fact that his daughter was one of us was a big factor). He did allow feds on campus; I remember one guy who tried to talk to me, his jeans were obviously new, and he was wearing dress shoes, so I knew he was a fed. I laughed at him, and he moved on.
Thank you for writing this! As a retired Naval Intelligence Officer and current federal employee working for the Navy, nothing has me more concerned than this very issue. Given a list of all the the things the administration has done to advance its authoritarian project, the one that causes me the most concern is the one you noted here - the firing of senior JAG Corps officers. SecDef Hegseth's book, The War on Warriors, and his own public statements make it clear that he must be shopping around for JAGs who will adopt his view that the United States should not be bound by the laws of armed conflict. To have the force he envisions in his book acting internationally is troubling enough, but to have that same force focused domestically would mark a turning point in our Republic. I realize it is overlong, and appreciate the brevity of your article, but here is my attempt to discuss these concerns - https://gregflo.substack.com/p/the-most-dangerous-course-of-action?r=12fx35
Use this spreadsheet to call/email/write any of our representatives as often as possible. Not just your own state reps, reach out to those in other states. Be as loud as you can and share this. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”
